Lori Langille

Biography

Lori Langille studied Fine Arts at the University of Ottawa before going on to the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD U) in Toronto to study painting and illustration. She graduated from OCAD U's Communications and Design program with a concentration in Editorial Illustration. Since then she has worked on a freelance basis for a wide range of private and public sector clients. Lori also exhibits her personal work in both solo and group shows.

Notable illustration assignments:

* Creating the logo for Mildred's Temple Kitchen in Toronto, the new eatery that's a part of the Mildred Pierce restaurant family and which opened in the fall of 2008.

* Designing a 13 foot high mural for Mildred's Temple Kitchen in September 2013, on a feature wall that's now a backdrop for special events such as wedding party photos.

* In November 2013, interview about having a career as both collage illustrator and design blogger for the Blogger of the Moment section on Rise Art, a London-based online art group affiliated with The Tate and Serpentine galleries among others.

* In December 2015, creating three collage illustrations used in the identity for Parfait, a Toronto condo development by Tridel, which are currently being used in print media, signage, website and other collateral.

Lori Langille Studio

Lori also has an online shop, Lori Langille Studio, featuring postcard and note card designs, stickers and art prints. A selection of her designs is also available at the Ottawa Art Gallery shop and at The Papery.

Automatism Blog

Lori is also the editor of the blog automatism, where she shares whatever she finds inspiring, interesting, or simply beautiful in design, art, illustration and other creative fields. Recent recognition for automatism includes:

* In December 2009 the automatism blog was selected by The Times Online as one of the top 50 design blogs in the world.

* In February 2010 Lori was one of seven bloggers profiled in a LoftLife magazine article on the rise of the design blogger.

* In July 2010 the automatism blog was chosen by Côté Maison magazine as one of their 15 favourite international design blogs.

* In March 2011 Blogger chose automatism as one of their Blogs of Note, a distinction awarded to Blogger-powered blogs found interesting and noteworthy.

* In December 2011 Lori was in the Rue Magazine holiday issue, appearing in the Blogger Side by Side feature with fellow blogger Katie Quinn Davies of What Katie Ate, with illustrations by Katie Rodgers.

* In August 2012 Etsy invited Lori to create a guest board for Pinterest. 

* In January 2013 automatism was chosen by Blender magazine for its list of Les 10 blogs de design á suivre en 2013 (the 10 Design Blogs to Follow in 2013).
