When I was asked to do a portrait of Charles Dickens for the cover of the January 28 2012 Books section of the Globe and Mail newspaper, I came up with the concept of Dickens as phoenix, rediscovered by each generation of readers (or reread after a gap of many years, as is the case in the article).
