Neural Marketing

This illustration ran in last Saturday's Report on Business section in the Globe and Mail. The article was about neural marketing -- how specific reactions of the brain are being targeted to refine selling to people. So far, the research has developed three different stages in the reaction of the brain to a new product, which I've illustrated as three hoops the brain must jump through before buying the product: (1) Attention, (2) Emotional engagement, and finally (3) Retention.

Bachelor of Arts

I've just realized that it's been a while since I've updated my News section here - my apologies. I've been busy working on a couple of things, but there's really nothing that's ready for viewing so far. What I can tell you about is my new Globe and Mail illustration. It's running in the February 8 edition, in the Facts and Arguments section, accompanying an article by a somewhat disgruntled Bachelor of Arts grad, who feels that his degree has been more of a hindrance than a help in his efforts to become meaningfully employed.

Portugal Calling

Or rather, Portugal blogging. On New Year's Day, the matéria prima ("raw material") blog posted my "War of the Roses" illustration for D Home magazine. Obrigado, matéria prima! Have a look here.

A New Year

One of my illustrations for Burnt Toast has just been entered into the National Magazine Awards competition, which is a very nice start to 2008. It's the Baking Saint, done for the Grains issue. More info on the awards can be found here. Happy New Year!

Potluck

Another Globe and Mail illustration, for an article about the modern potluck dinner party. I tried something a little different for this collage, taking a more decorative approach.
